Vintage David Warren on the Evils of Darwinism

No, David, but tell us what you really think!
Even at best, Darwinism has been the great obliterator of that holy sense of wonder in the presence of nature that is intrinsic to our humanity. It replaces the rich world of gorgeous particularities with the steady drone of a feeble-minded atheistic propaganda.
What a great phrase is "the rich world of gorgeous particularities." That's the world I want to inhabit.

I also remember reading somewhere about about how what David describes as that "steady drone of a feeble-minded atheistic propaganda" has diminished what used to be called "the heavens" to merely "space."

Alas.

All here.

Run, Run! David Warren's Easter bit.

Do you know how beautiful it is to run? You old, you lame, you fools, run! And tell it to the ends of the earth: He is risen!
He is risen, indeed, David. A very good bit, here.

David Warren: The Great Divide—Liberals, Conservatives, Criminals and Victims

On the difference between liberals and conservatives from The Ottawa Citizen...
the most obvious contemporary way to distinguish between a “liberal” and a “conservative” is in their views on any passing spectacle of crime and punishment. The “liberal” instinctively identifies with the criminal, the “conservative” instinctively identifies with the victim. The liberal instinctively accuses the conservative of lacking compassion, or of wanting vengeance against the criminal, with whom the liberal has identified. The conservative instinctively remembers that the criminal showed no compassion to the victim with whom he identified.

David Warren on Forgiveness and Manliness

David Warren is a columnist with The Ottawa Citizen.

His website is worth some exploration.

Some excellent pieces, for example:

On Forgiveness:
To accept an apology is not forgiveness. It is just good manners. Good manners can be taught. They are within the reach of almost any human will. The ability to forgive is a little beyond this. It is like genius, in the sense that it cannot be taught.
On Manliness:
One week I write about the feminine virtue of modesty, then last week, I say in passing that women “understand orders differently from men”, and that they don’t belong on the front lines in combat. This last remark, especially, turned out to be a great way to meet women. A lot of them wrote to me -- about half in agreement, and the other half striving to illustrate my point.
...the rest.
