a clergyman may be apparently as useless as a cat, but he is also as fascinating, for there must be some strange reason for his existence (GK Chesterton): one retired Anglican septuagenarian clergyman's THOUghts, discOverings, readings, scribbLes, wOndeRings and dooDles exploring that strange reason

In good ‘Titanic’ tradition, and in the light of the HoB statement, would the broadcast from the bridge go something like this?
ReplyDelete‘The officers of the good ship Titanic have just had their daily meeting over lunch. The meeting began with sherry, and a mighty fine one it was too.
We had a report from the Officer in charge of the crew who reported that everyone is in fine spirits; the crew are ever so proud to be on the Titanic and the impact of an iceberg is of no real consequence. The crew believe that the Titanic is unsinkable.
The Entertainment Officer reported that in his contact with the passengers he believs that the main sentiment was that of sheer delight at being on the Titanic and no one is in the least bit concerned about the water rushing in at the bows and the ship beginning to lose headway and list. Those reporting a problem are but a troublesome few and will be got rid of soon. He believes that if everyone was to form a circle, facing inwards and sing Rule Britannia in loud voices the problem will go away.
The Officers shared privately their thoughts about how difficult it is being in command of a sinking ship; especially when the Captain, and others, seems to have no idea what was going on. ‘He keeps quoting from parts of the maker’s handbook and will not address the questions the passengers were asking about lifeboats. He even sent a signal to an approaching steamer to keep away as no help was needed’.
The Officers spent a substantial part of lunch discussing their upcoming shore leave in New York.
We hope you are enjoying your voyage on the Titanic, rumors of a collision with an iceberg are vastly exaggerated and the ship is in no danger at all.
All in all we had a good lunch, burp.
That's pretty naughty, too!
ReplyDelete;) Luv it.
ReplyDeleteSo how come you didn't post it to the Essentials blog, hummmmmmmm? ;-)
